Hello Richard:

I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800.

Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%.

Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.

Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).

Your post should have stated whether Hugh and Ann were born in Ireland. These are rather crucial facts and influences the entire search process. Without it, we have to assume.

For Hugh McKenna B 1869 +/- 1 yr somewhere in Ireland with a father forenamed John, I found 1 rcd in 1869, Co. Tyrone. The parish was NOT in Aghaloo parish.

For Ann McKenna B 1872 ditto, I found 3 rcds: 1873 Dublin, and 2-1873 Tyrone. The latter two both occurred in Aghaloo parish.

For John McKenna M 1868 +/- 1 yr somewhere in Ireland, I found 33 rcds with 6 in Co. Tyrone, 5 in Co. Down, 0 in Co. Galway.

For Ann(e) Davis M ditto, I found 2 rcds: 1867 Down and 1869 Galway.

There are no matches of M rcds for John and Ann. You may want to expand the search range.

Suggest you revisit the 1880 census to get the estimated DOB for John, Ann, and Elizabeth to help you find their B rcds should they exist.

Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
