Penny,
Joseph McKendrick appears in the Indiana Co, Pa census in the following years.
1880 - Joseph -age 4 with father John age 52, Mother Emma age 40 and several siblings.
1900 - Joseph D. age 24 with Father John age 72 and mother Emma age 60
1920 - Joseph D. age 43 with wife Alace age 42, son John age 15, daughter Grace age 11, daughter Hazel age 6.
I suspect this may be your Joseph D. McKendrick.
