John H. McKenderick Sr. died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at McCarrick Care Center in Somerset. He was 89. Mr. McKenderick was born in New Brunswick and lived there for 60 years, prior to moving to North Brunswick. Mr. McKenderick was a plumber for Local 9 in Englishtown. He retired in 1983. Mr. McKenderick was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church in New Brunswick. He was a member of New Brunswick Elks, a member of Sacred Heart Athletics Association, Sacred Heart Tri-county Basketball Coach, and Central Jersey Pop Warner Football League. Mr. McKenderick was a member of the 1936 St. Peters High School State Championship Basketball team. He played basketball at St. Benedict's Prep School in Newark. Mr. McKenderick was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Colligan-McKenderick in 1994; a brother, Nicholas McKenderick in 1983, and two sisters, Mary (Minnie) McKenderick-Dancsecs, in 1999 and Augusta (Gussie) McKenderick-Carter, in 2000. Mr. McKenderick is survived by six children, John McKenderick of North Brunswick, Joseph McKenderick Sr. and his wife, Carmela of North Brunswick, James McKenderick of Glenville, N.C., Patricia McKenderick of Somerset, Michael McKenderick of New Brunswick, and Robert McKenderick and his wife, Patricia of North Brunswick; five grandchildren, Dina McKenderick, Joseph McKenderick Jr. and his wife, Cathy, Michael McKenderick, Joanna and her husband, Miguel Tacuri, and Jennifer McKenderick, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, from Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset, followed by a 9 a.m. Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart R.C. Church in New Brunswick. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in New Brunswick. Relatives and friends may call from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
