I've been searching Alabama records trying to figure out the families of John H. McKenzie and his wife Nancy. I have census records from 1850-1880 and they lived in Barbour Co., AL throughout this time. In 1880 a Katie McLeoud is living with them and is listed as "mother." Since I had notes from other family researchers that Nancy's surname was possibly McLeod, I thought maybe Katie was actually John H. McKenzie's mother-in-law.
Just today I found a marriage record at the familysearch.org website for a John H. Mc Kenzie and Nancy Mc Levi married in Barbour Co., AL Nov. 16, 1848. I previously had a date of Nov. 6, 1849, but this strikes me as a record to follow up on. When I search that same site for McLevi, it pulls up the name McKelvey (and it's many spellings).
Now I'm wondering if the Nancy I'm looking for is actually Nancy McKelvey and that Katie McLeoud is indeed John H. McKenzie's mother and that she remarried after John's father died.
Does anyone recognize these folks, all living in Barbour Co., Alabama or thereabouts?
