McKellep Family Genealogy Forum

Kellie, the lineage I'm working on is the family of David McKellop who married Mary Susan Perryman, daughter of Benjamin Perryman, a Creek Indian. David was in the War of 1812 in Freeman's Squadron, Cavalry, of the GA Militia. He served 5 mo. 7 days and was discharged Jan. 28, 1814 at Fort Hawkins. In 1829 he witnessed a petition to the government by the Creek Indians leaders, signed near Fort Gibson in Indian Territory/OK proving that he and wife Mary Susan came west with the McIntosh party in 1828. A biographical sketch of his grandson Albert P. McKellop said David came with his parents to America from Scotland as a child. A sworn affadavit by another grandson, David M. Hodge said that David McKellop died in 1841 and Mary Susan in 1845, and that David had served as a Methodist Missionary among the Creek Indians in Indian Territory. David & Mary Susan had at least 6 children: James Madison m-Annie Marshall, Nancy Ann b-11 Nov. 1818 & d-16 Jan 1886-married Nathaniel Hodge, Rachel m-Hiram Harvey Porter, Susan b-1833 d-1878 m-John Denton, John and Rev. David b-1831 d-Oct. 1871.The Joseph McKellop whose second wife was Sallie Knight was a son of James Madison McKellop and his wife Annie Marshall. Joseph and Sallie had a daughter Effie who my records show was married to a Bruce Scott. They had several children. I don't know who Bruce Scott was. What I'm trying to learn is who the parents of David McKellop were and if he had siblings and when they came from Scotland to America.
