McKellars of Souris, Manitoba
This is now my third McKellar family, but I think they're all related.
My great-great grandfather, John Cunningham (1822-1893) lived in Duart, Orford Township, Kent County, Ontario. This borders on Elgin County. He married first Ann McKellar (1824-1864) and, after her death, her sister Helen McKellar (1837-1903). Census records indicate that Ann was born in Scotland, but Helen was born in Canada. That's all I know about that McKellar family.
After John died in 1893, Helen went to live with a McKellar family in Souris, Manitoba. Her daughter, Jennie Cunningham (1866-1949), taught in Souris before her marriage at the age of 45. Jennie's daughter is still alive at 90 and talks about a McKellar family in Souris headed by a Malcolm, called Mac (~1876-1958). Mac may have been born in Ontario. He had 2 wives and children Malcolm Gordon, known as Gordon (~1903-1977), Vivian and Donald. At some point, this family moved to Vancouver. Donald moved to the US as an adult, but the others stayed in Vancouver. I've had some communication with Gordon's daughter. Vivian never married, but Donald did, and had 2 children, I believe. I would suspect that Mac was descended from a brother or cousin of Helen and Ann.
I've obtained as much information as I could from the BC and Manitoba archives websites.
Does this fit in with anything anybody else has?
Bob
