Re: Mary Ann Kingsley, b. abt. 1813

I’m looking for any relatives of Mary Ann Kingsley, born about 1813, perhaps in Portland, Cumberland County Maine.

Mary Ann is my great great grandmother. She married John V. McKeen about March 1840, perhaps in Steuben, Washington County, Maine. Steuben may have been known as Steubenville at that time. Mary Ann resided in Gouldboro, Hancock County, Maine, during the 1840 U.S. census. She lived in Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine during the late 1840’s and the 1850 U.S. census. By 1860 she resided in St. Anthony, Hennepin County, Minnesota with her husband and children. After 1861 we have no other references to her.

Her known children were: Elizabeth McKeen (b. 1842), John Wesley McKeen (b. 1843) who was my great grandfather, Mary E. McKeen (b. 1845), Samuel McKeen (b. 1848), James and Sarah McKeen (b. 1851), Fredrick McKeen (b. 1857).

It is believed her parents were James Kingsley (b. 1783) and Thankful. They possibly were residents of Steuben. Thankful’s second husband as of about 1844 was Samuel Dorman. The Dormans may have lived in the Cherryfield, Washington County, Maine area during the 1840’s.

Mary Ann Kingsley’s brothers included John Kingsley of Gouldsboro and West Gouldsboro, Hancock County, Maine. He appears with his family in that area through the 1870 U.S. census. Another brother, Alanson Kingsley, lived in the Gouldsboro area in the 1840’s. Two brothers, Rufus Kingsley and Freeman Kingsley, appear to be living in Cherry field, Washington County, Maine in the 1840’s.

Mary Ann Kingsley’s sisters included Philena Kingsley. Philena’s husband was George Whitaker of Gouldsboro, Maine, during the 1840’s. Philena died in 1890, age 75, a widow, at Portland, Maine. Another sister, Mary S. Kingsley married a William H. Stevens of Steuben, Maine. They may have had a son named Hamlet Stevens who lived in Meeker County, Minnesota, from the 1850’s until his death.

An E.B. Kingsley, resident of Meeker County, Minnesota, during the 1860’s may have been a relative of Mary Ann Kingsley.

An Alvina Kingsley, age 20, lived with John V. McKeen and Mary Ann Kingsley McKeen, per the 1850 census of Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine. She may have been a relative.

Any help is appreciated in finding relatives, dead or alive, of my great great grandmother, Mary Ann Kingsley McKeen! Thanks.
