Doris McKee Brown says she has the story of the McKee brothers splitting up. I am wondering how much influence that the genealogy *The McKees of Virginia and Kentucky* had in spreading that story. This was published around 1880, I think.

My family (Gavin McKee, settled in Fleming Co., KY) is certainly closely related to David's family and Gavin's father was likely David's brother. I once had some correspondence with someone who had talked to a descendant whose story mentioned something like 14 brothers and a sister.

I have a feeling that, if there is any truth to it, the large number of brothers may have come from Scotland to Ireland, rather than from Ireland to America. The reason? There seem to be some traditions which connect Robert, James, and John (?) McKee, of Augusta or Rockbridge Co., VA, with David's family. They do not seem to be brothers, but more likely cousins.
