From a post I have also made to the Ambrose GenForum:

.....I am still hopeful of finding Ambrose grandparents from 1700, give or take 25 years or so either way most likely, I know they are out there in the long ago and far away for my husband, Leon, and his McKee lineage.

Recently discovered on the new Family Search.org in the category of ENGLAND BIRTHS AND CHRISTENINGS, 1538-1975 FOR ROBERT MCKEE:

ROBERT MCKEE
male
Baptism/Christening Date: 29 April 1758
Baptism/Christening Place:

SAINT JOHN THE BAPTIST, CROYDON, SURREY, ENGLAND

FATHER'S NAME:..........AMBROSE MCKEE

MOTHER'S NAME:.........PHILADELPHEA

Indexing Project (Batch)
Number: C15471-5
System Origin: England-ODM
Source File Number: 994331

Reference number: -2:1Z78DN2....England-VR

Of course, location being ENGLAND and at CROYDON in SURREY which was apparently located just a little more than 7 miles south from London at that time was big news.

The baptism being in a BAPTIST Church in that time period would certainly seem to be very significant but is an area I have yet to study.

The AMBROSE connection goes WAY back.

Recently, research has seemed to indicate Ambrose McKee of 1785 proven death in Mecklenburg Co NC possibly never lived in Ireland and perhaps left the southwestern area of Scotland and moved down through England in some manner whether by land or water unknown.

Ambrose seems to be a name that was not often used in Scotland and I speculate the Ambrose grandparents, or namesake used for Ambrose McKee if not grandparents, may have been in the same area where this child of Ambrose McKee named Robert McKee was apparently born........... Croydon, Surrey, England in early 1758.

With no good estimate of the age of Ambrose when his son was born the possible connection with AMBROSE as a surname could also have been in Europe or in the New World considering the entry for Mother's Name is given as PHILADELPHEA.

I would appreciate ANY insight from any searchers here.

Thanks very much. Linda McKee
