It seems that Group 1 are all clansmen with origins in southwestern Scotland (around Peninghame); the oral tradition in my branch (related closely to the McKeesport McKees) is that religious persecution (probably what was called the "Killing Times", in the 1680) caused them to move. All the leading McKie lairds supported the Covenant and were defeated in battle in the 1680s. Unfortunately the link to later McKees probably will never be uncovered, but the History of Allegheny County (1889) says that David McKee (d. 1795), father of John McKee (founder of McKeesport), was by tradition "baron of Learg." Since the McKies of Larg were the senior line, perhaps David was a kinsman. But this McKie link is good. I've been unsuccessful in getting any relatives to take the test.
