Regarding James McKee and a possible land grant for revolutionary War service - I thought of that possibility and was looking into it just the other day. Was Hardin County, Kentucky part of the Virginia Military District? There is also a Hardin County, Ohio that was definitely part of it, but I couldn't find anything regarding Hardin County, Kentucky. There was just a passing reference to land south and east of the Ohio river being granted, but it wasn't clear. If you have any sources that you could point me to I'd appreciate it.
The account given by James's grandson, William McKee Jr., is that James moved to Kentucky during the Revolution and doesn't mention anything about James's participation in the war. Obviously, a grandson could have the facts wrong and James certainly could have participated in the Revolution and been given a land grant. It's certainly an avenue worth exploring.
