ROWAN COUNTY, NC - WILLS - Robert McKie "The Elder", 1803 ----??---- Will s: Robert McKie "The Elder", 1803: Rowan County, NC In the Name of God Am en I Robert McKie the Elder of the County of Rowan and the State of Nor th Carolina Being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory, Thanks be u nto God for his mercies, calling to mind the mortality of my body and know ing that it is appointed for all men to die do make and ordain this my la st will and Testament. Principally and first of all I give and bequea th my soul to Almighty God who Gave it , and my body I recommend to the Ea rth to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my exec utors nothing doubting but I shall again receive the same at the General r esurrection by the Mighty power of God. As touching the worldly estate whe rewith it has been pleased God to bless me in this life I give and dispo se of it in the following manner and form. First I give and bequeath un to my beloved sons Robert McKie and Theodore McKie all the tract of land w hereon I now live and whereon they also live containing about three hundr ed and sixteen acres for which I have already made them a title to be equa lly divided between them. If they cannot agree upon the division of it the mselves it would be my desire that the whole tract should be divided in to two equal tract By an east and west line leaving each of them an equ al number of acres and the two divisions be valued by sponsible men of Jud gement, the one who has the most valuable part paying unto the other a s um of money in such a manner as to make both the divisions of equal valu e. Secondly I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Henry McKie a certa in Negro woman Named Nancy and if I should dispose of said woman befo re my decease I give and bequeath unto him a sum of money equal to wh at I shall obtain for said woman viz. the price of her, and also the seven th part of all my personal Estate Negroes excepted. Thirdly I give and beq ueath unto my son Robert McKie the sum of fifty dollars. Fourthly I give a nd bequeath unto my son Theodore McKie the sum of fifty dollars. Fifth ly I give and bequeath unto my son John McKie If yet living or to his hei rs if he has any the sum of ten dollars. Sixthly I give and bequeath un to my daughter Millie McKie one young bay mare about four of five years o ld being a colt of my roan Mare by the horse Selim besides her equal divi de with the others of my Estate as mentioned below. Seventhly. It is my wi ll that all my Just debts shall be paid with money arising from the sa le of my personal property and that all my person property shall be so ld at public venue except what is otherwise directed above and the whole a mount of the same after the payment of my debts and charges of the Estat e, and the seventh part as mentioned above to my son Henry are taken out ( with other things mentioned above,) I give and bequeath unto my beloved da ughters Molly Smith, Lucy Smith, Sally Smith, Susanna Thomas, Frankie Stra nge, and Millie McKie to be equally divided between them all. Also I const itute make and ordain my Trusty friends Robert Moore and William Stran ge to be the Executors of this my last will and Testament and I do here by utterly disallow revoke and disannull all and every other former wil ls testaments [indecipherable] bequests and Executors by me in any wise be fore made willed bequeathed or named ratifying and confirming this a nd no other to be my last will and testament. I witness whereof I have her eunto set my hand and seal this first day of october one thousand eight hu ndred and three.
