David, I was up so late last night I don't believe my brain was connected.
My McKees lived later years in Freeport, ILL., not Pa. And as usual, McKees always used the same names for kids.
Up front, let me ask you if your James McKee was mard. to Margaret Pierce (in Armstrong Co., Pa. in 1830)
No one in our family has ever been able to find the parents of James, but I do have an old letter from one of the kids wives who said he was very close to
his sister, Sarah, who married the bro. of the above Margaret, Joseph Pierce and they lived in Ohio. Also a paper article mentions Sarah is the daughter of Samuel McKee of Westmorland Co.
Here is a sketch of my info, and it may be enough to turn you off. James can't be pinned down as he was always moving his family around for work. Prob. a tanner, he lived in Pa. then Ohio, Pa., Idaho, and returned to Freeport, Ill, where he and Marg. died.
He can only be traced by where is kids were born.
James McKee, born 1803, prob. Westmorland Co. Pa., and Margaret Pierce, dtr. of Peter and Martha Vasy (Veasy) (her mother was 1st wife of Saml. McKee who died in 1780, leaving 5 minor kids). Their kids;:
My Gr..Gr. Grandad, Samuel Wallace McKee,
Born 183l, a railroader, and successful farmer with my grandad, Frank Wallace and wife doing the farming. They all went to Humboldt, Io., where her family had layed out the city and built a college.
Her uncle, Rev. Stephen Taft, was the founder. They are cousins of Pres.
Taft. #2 and #3, Peter and Marta, died young,
which explains #4 Martha Ellen (Hulse) arriving not til 1837. #5 Nancy Jane 1839, md older cousin Joseph Pierce, Ill.
#6. James b.184l d. in Idaho #7 Robert Mck, b. 1843 in Pa., d.Roseburg, Ore.
#8. Elizabeth, born 1845, Freeport Ill. md. James Mack, d. Ill.; #9 Edw. P. b.1849, Ill; Harvey, b. 1842 and Oscar E. McK. B 1852. All of the family is trying to find James parents. I think it is Saml. McKee Jr., thought to have mard. Nancy McConnell. He and a John Mck., not a bro., bought the widows home about 20 yrs. after Sams death. He was an indian fighter big time and died the year they were on a rampage, but also the Revol. was going on.
Am anxious to see if you can line up with anyone here. Hoping you connect with Elizabeth Mack. I've heard from 4 of the above in last 5 yrs. Good Luck, Donna
