Nelson McKee
Posted: 21 Jun 1999 10:37AM GMT
The info I have on Nelson came from WFT Vol. 1. It has Nelson's parents as Rankin McKee (b. 7 Sep 1772, d. 3 Aug 1835 both in Orange Co, NC) and Lydia B. Ray (b. 5 Dec 1784, d. 18 Apr 1851 in Orange Co, NC). Nelson's brother John R. McKee also came to Maury Co, TN as did Rankin's brother, William. William is the line that I am connected to. I had that Nelson died in 1863 while on furlough during the war.

I am looking for Lydia B. RAY b.5 dec 1784
and d.1851 in Orange co.NC.
She was married to Rankin MCKEE.I have no info.on their family except they had a son Nelson MCKEE. Any info. would be great!

Surnames: McKee, Dodson
Hello Can anyone tell me if it is possible that Nelson McKee may have had a son out of a previous Marriage?

I believe that Andrew Jackson McKee (son of Nelson McKee) Lived very near or on same property as my John F.M. McKee
on the 1900 United States Federal Census

Name: Andrew J McKee
Home in 1900: Civil District 2, Williamson, Tennessee

The next Family on census is my John's family.

Both have father B. NC Mother TN

this is the big mystery, to give John some parents...

Also - John F's wife Sarah and Andrew's Wife, Elisabeth Caroline were Dodson sisters.

I was typing you a long note and I hit something on my keyboard and I don't know if I sent it or deleted. I will start again because the info is important to me and you also.

I have never thought about John FM being a son to Nelson McKee. Nelson was born in 1818 and he would been 14 years of age at the time of John FM birth.

The picture of Andrew Jackson McKee I have on his page Andrew is in the wheel chair and his wife is either the last lady in back row last one on the right or the first one in the front row to the left. One lady is Caroline and the other is her sister Sarah. I have one other picture of the sister that is not a good shot I can post to Caroline page I don't know which is Caroline and which is Sarah. They looked so much.

I wonder if John FM was from a different family all together. In North Carolina around the 1800's there were 3 William McKee's and one was a Colonel in Rev. War Era. This William had either a brother or son name Alexander McKee. Alex and family left North Carolina and settled in Sumner County Tennessee and some time later the moved to Maury County, Tennessee. A lady from this line wrote a book about this line of McKee's. She did a wonderful job on researching and backing up all of her information. I have read this book and I could never find any connection to my line of McKee's. I have wonder if John FM came from this line and Andrew and John formed a friendship because of last name and they married sisters. I have also wonder if John FM used an alis. Wouldn't that open a brand new can of worms.

I hope one day to find the answer to John FM and who was William McKee (1747-1822)parents were.

If I ever find out either answer I will post to their page on

Good luck in your search and you have any info to share please let me known.

You are welcome. This is my email address at work and all my information is at home. I will look up the Author name on the McKee Tree and email it you directly. I even know where the information is a home which is amazing. You can easily gather alot of paper when working on family tree. I have notebooks after notebook and boxes and boxes.

If my memory is correct the ladies name was Jean McKee Stephenson and she lived around Sumner County Tennessee and she passed away a few years ago. The book I read belong to one of my sisters she will let me read it again. I kept it for about 2 years and wrote a lot of the info in a notebook at home I will check my notes and email you back.

Any info I have I am always happy to share. It is said that there is almost no pictures of the old generations.

My line is William McKee, Rankin, Nelson, Andrew, Lester, Luther McKee.
