The bit about Minnigaff and Esther Hawthorne as David McKee's birthplace and his mother shouldn't be accepted. There are lots of names on the internet floating around. Without more information they shouldn't be accepted. I think that appears in the IGI.

According to 19th century tradition, the McKees of Rockbridge County, VA (William McKee and wife Miriam Brown, and others) believed they were related to the McKeesport family.

I think that there may be a larger family in which David and the Rockbridge/Augusta County family may belong, but they probably left Scotland in the 1680s and were in Ireland for some time, and there are few surviving records from that period.
