Max: I am not sure of the Edwards connection with the family of Wm McKee. AL Records (Jones & Gandrud) have some info regarding some "jointly shared land"..with McKee/Edwards..ca 1841..probably part of an estate settlement. Also, on the usgenwebAR site are land claims filed by the Gunters..regarding their Cherokee reservations..Wm McKee, James and John Edwards made statements. That is how I found the 1815 date for Wm McKee's arrival on the island, which took his name. I understand part of it is now under water..but an excavation was done by TVA which gives alot of history of McKee Island. A book "Guntersville Remembered" by Duncan and Smith gives good insight into the early settlers/history. I also descend from Robert Rudolph Boshart, Revolutionary War Veteran from SC, who first settled on the Flint River in the Bell Factory area of Madison Co..In 1811, he built the first dam and grist mill along the Flint.. he sold that property and moved to Columbus City (close to McKee Island). He is buried in the Old Prospect Cemetery along Hwy 79.. I've seen the Wheeler name mentioned with some of mother's Derrick Family..(Jackson Co genforum-Sublett's Mill list of settlers)..interesting! I would love to know the relationship between the McKee/Edwards family! Thanks
