Hi, Mary Lou, I was delighted to hear from you. 1st time I've ever thought I might have found a connection on my own.
I wanted to e-mail you, but your address does not appear on your letter. I am in S.E. Kansas. About 5 years ago I and some old classmates of 1946 travelled east and went to Washington Co., Pa. (next to Westmorland Co.) so I could look into a Peter McKee (sons Sam, James John David) family I thought were my tribe, took grave pics, but they just gave me a couple of hrs. and I sure wanted to stay longer. Now I am pretty certain they were not my family, but they made everything confusing, since they had many of the same names, and owned property in several counties. Also, my Samuel, firmly established in Westmmoreland, Hempfield Tsp., died there before the old man in the other family came over.
But I think there was a Mary and I will have to do some research and get back to you.
Our McKees nearly always named the 1st son after his grandpa. I have 3 generations including my dad, gr. dad and gr grandad with
Wallace for a middle nameand do run into Wallaces often. I am certain there is a Robison way back there too, and it may have been the maiden name of Samuel d. 1780, wife, Margaret.
Be sure to watch for Pierces (neighboring Armstrong Co.) and Veasy-Vesseys.
Someone who knows about McKee Glass Co. wrote me and I don't believe they are any of my kin, tho they are right there.
I am not good at searching land records. I have no court records, but I know there are some followups on the land division at the Orphan Court, tho in a different office, probably. I was told that my Samuel probably got the farm. Widow Margaret McKee Veasy,s kids with JohnV.were thought to move on to another near-by county, which I've never searched, because I know their kids mard. into the Pierce family, as they show up on our Pierce family records. My grandad, James mard. a Pierce (Margaret is a grandmother on both sides of the family) My Samuel, son of James, moved with Ellen (2nd cousin of Pres. Taft) from Freeport Ill, to Humboldt, Io.,(founded by her uncle)
about 1860, on to Kansas in 1903.
I have some time now, so I'll drag out
those Peter McKee files and take a look.
My e-mail is
Thanks, Donna
