Marcia, If I could give a firm answer to question about Mckees of Mecklenburg NC, I would be much deeper into Mckee genealogy. There appears to be two groups of Mckees moving into NC and SC in the 1700's.
One group likely came down from PA thru VA. into the Steele Creek/ Mecklenburg NC and India Hook/York SC region. The 1784-87 NC state census lists only John Mackee and Joel McKey!
There appears to be a later group of Mckees that came via Charleston SC and were shuted to the Piedmont region. There are 70 McKees buried in one cemetery in central Union Co of NC!
Which group that my John Mckee Family was part of is my quest.
