Thanks for the reply. There could indeed be a tie, but the John McKee Jr. that I'm looking for was in TN in the early 19th century. He left TN after mustering out of the army from serving in the War of 1812/the Creek Wars.

I understand that there were and are a lot of McKees in TN. And, as you observed, the tendency to use the same given names of John and James (and William too) makes the research that more challenging.
