Paul:
Glad to see you are still out there searching. I attended a McKee family reunion in Fleming Co.,KY in Sept. 2000. Most all attending were descended from John Owings McKee. None of them knew about Guion McKee. I was hoping they might know where Guion & Abigail are buried. None had a photo of John O McKee although he lived long enough to probably have had his photo taken. One interesting bit of information came out of my visit. The middle name Owings seem very important in the McKee. Two people told me they were told by their father the the name Owings MUST be continued in the family. Their father's middle name was Owings and one of the men telling me this had Owins as a middle name. Since we know Abigail's father was John Lane/Lain I would guess that John's wife or mother was an Owings. Have you found any more on Abigail's family,
I just retired this year and have begun researching the lines again. I have contact with a descendant of Hester McKee, dau. of Wm & Hester (Adams) McKee. She sent me a photo of Hester,Jr. and of Hester Jr.'s daughter. I am going to send he a photo of William McKee (1783).
I found in a manilla folder in the basement of the DAR library in DC two great photos of William & Hester's tombstones. All inscriptions are clear. The photos were probably taken in the 1920's. I went to the cem in Vermilion Co., this year and found Hester's to be in pieces and un readable and William's badly weathered and almost unreadable. I have developed a tombstone photographic method that will give a good readable print of his stone, but her's may be too far gone because of the fragmenting for even this process.
I was so glad to find you. I had been told of your demize. Maybe someone got you mixed up with James O.
There is a Guion descendant in Vermilion Co that has access to a photo of William have you had contact with her? I hope to meet with her and copy the photo. The one I copied of William is not very good. The one of John Adams McKee is great. Both were from CDV's and the owner (Mrs.Dillon) in Huntington,IN sent them to me so I had time to make good negatives with a 2 1/4"
x 3 1/4" Speed Graphic camera.
Have you seen the will of Robert McKee of Chester Co.,PA? The child born in the early 1750's the recorder couldn't make the name out on I still feel is Guion. My oldest son now lives near Baltimore so when we visit him I will have time to drive up to Chester & request the original document. It is in storage so will take some advance preparation to see it. Mary Moore's father as you may recall was Guion. Robert's second wife was Sarah. Our Guion's first three children are Robert,Mary & Sarah. I hope to be able to prove it one way or the other unless you have already done so.
Hope to hear from you.
