June,
My GGFather, George Washington Mckee, listed his birthplace as Marcellais, France jan 8, 1816. Family legends say he was orphaned on the way to America and was raised by the ship captain named Mckee. Our earlies record of him is 1855 when he married Mary Jane(Polly) Orman in Indiana. Any similarities with your line?
