ATTN: JOSEPH WILLIAM MCKEAN 1799-1851
While visiting relatives in AR, my husband and I made at trip to a cemetery south of Dequeen, Sevier Co., AR, on hwy 70 right before you enter McCurtain Co., OK.We were looking for grave of his maternal great grandmother's father, John F. Thornton. This cemetery is on private property in a pasture but the cemetery is fenced in, but in bad shape. This is an old cemtery. We had no luck finding what we were looking for as most of the markers were sunk down in the ground and hard to read.I made pictures of this cemetery and a picture of a recent marker on the Joseph William McKean portion.
This is not a cemetery you would want to visit in the warm months because of snakes. It was bad visiting in December. It is on private property and after entering the gate we could only drive so far and had to walk the rest of the way. We had to jump a creek (I missed) before getting to it.I would be glad to scan picture of this marker to anyone researching this McKean family.Just email me.
