I would like to know more about Abel McKain. There was an Abel McKain in Genesee Co. NY in the 1810 census index. There was also a James McKain listed there. In 1820, the spelling was Abel McKane in LeRoy, Genesee Co. In that census index there was a James McCane and James McCane, Jr. in Batavia in Genesee Co. NY. In 1830 there is an Abel McKeain of Alexander, Genesee Co. There was an Abel McCain, Jr and a Sherrod McCain of Batavia, William McCain and Leander McKain of Elba. I wonder if all these people were related despite various spellings. I have an ancestor from Genesee and Livingston Counties, a Gorman who used the name of McCane as a middle name for one of her children. She married a Thornton and settled in Canada. I hope to find a connection.
