Evening Catriona:
Boy, are we close. So close but with a few missing links.
The key to the puzzle is Mary's daughter Henrietta "Effie".
Because in doing our search we have Norman McIver marrying a Henrietta / "Effie' and this has always confused us.
Norman and Henrietta/Effie had five sons
John or Iain
Donald and

John/Iain and Neil stayed in Lewis, but Roderick, Donald (my Grandfather) and George emigrated to Canada.

Norman and Henrietta/Effie lived in South Shawbost, Lewis, a wee village, a stone's throw down the road from Carloway.
Neil is buried there.

And I think one of Norman's brothers was a Murdo McIver.
The first names are all so familiar.
And if your Mary named one of her children after her mother or Aunt then WOW!
And if you tie in the Gaelic naming system then we are even closer to BINGO!
Let me know
Gordon MacIvor
Fort Macleod.
