Yes Ian, I have those certificates but found them difficult to read and was unable to verify addresses. I think it is Cowick rather than Lowick.I believe this to be in Exeter.Did find the family of Edward and Charlotte and wrote notes which I cannot find at present but was too rushed for time at the old records office in Chancery Lane in London before they moved to Kew.If you haven't got it fromthe census I will try to find the notes.
As far as John McInnes' enlistment is concerned I wonder if he stated he was born in Scotland rather than Ireland to get into the Royal Engineers.He served for 5 years and 217 days abroad in the Crimea and Malta out of his 21 years and 199 days service.When he was discharged after second period of service he was 5ft 51/2 inches tall and was an Iron Turner.
