Ian,
I have traced this Hamilton McInnes to the poorhouse where he died and Catherine to her death in 1865 where she was found by her daughter Mary Grant.Catherine seems to be the daughter of James McLaughlin a fisherman. The only James McLaughlin I found was born in Perth,Scotland and married to Janet. Both died before Catherine.
Cousin Stephen Gregory in Australia has difficulty in believing that Hamilton is our ancestor but no others have been found with a son John of the correct age.
I am having difficulty with the Abbot side since great grandma Jane Sabina Dollery told one of her grandchildren she was impregnated by someone at the big house where she worked in Kingston-on Thames, and that Edwin Abbott married her before our grandma Ada was born...
Did not know John and Harriet had more than the seven children on the census as I thought Edward Wells was their eldest and Rose the youngest surviving. No ideas about child born to Harriet when she died. Sorry.
Which of Uncle Walter's children is your mother?
I am the daughter of Edwin Michael[Ted or Mac his nicknames]
Nice to pool some resources.
Sheila
