The McIlrath family was one of the early families to settle the Cleveland area. The Cleveland settlers came from Morris Co, NJ. East Cleveland Township First Presbyterian Church of Collamer The church was organized 27 Aug 1807 and was the first church in Cuyahoga Co by about 10 years. It was formed through the "Plan of Union" between the Presbyterian Church and the Congregational Church, of Connecticut. It was at first Congregational and later took the name of The Church of Christ in Euclid, after the township in which it was located. On 15 March 1810 it adopted the "Presbyterian model." The first members were: "Nathaniel and Sarah Doan, John Ruple, Thomas and Elizabeth McIlrath, Sarah Shaw, Eanice Eddy, Abram L. and Abigail Norris, George and Almira Kilbourn, Andrew and Abigail McIlrath, Anna Bunnel and Isabella McIlrath." In Aug 1810, Andrew McIlrath and John Ruple were appointed ruling elders of the church. At about the same time, a log cabin to house the church was built. The church was located in East Cleveland Twp, in the village of Collamer, from about 1849-1867 and was known as the First Presbyterian Church of Euclid. In Sept 1867, its name was changed to Presbyterian Church of Collamer. Notify Administrator about this message?
