Deceased Name: KATHLEEN (MCHUGH) MEADE
GALENA, Ill. - Kathleen (McHugh) Meade, 96, of Galena, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at Galena-Stauss Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena, with the Rev. Daniel Tranel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Steinke Funeral Home, 235 S. Bench St., Galena, where there will be a scripture service at 5 p.m.
Mrs. Meade was employed at the Railroad Retirement Board for many years, retiring in 1971.
She was born on Aug. 27, 1904, daughter of Patrick and Catherine (Fox) McHugh. She married Regis C. Meade on July 10, 1937; he died Nov. 4, 1992.
She was known to many as "Granny". She was a native of Williamstown, County Galway, Ireland. She immigrated to Chicago in 1925. She and her family moved to Galena in 1979.
Surviving are her daughter, Mary (Larry) Morenz, of Galena; her cherished granddaughters, Briget, of Portland, Ore., Nora, of Naperville, and Sheila, of Chicago; and four nieces and two nephews, all in Ireland.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a loving brother, Patrick McHugh, of Ireland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Galena Area EMS.
