Actually, our Joseph McHenry born 1818 in South Carolina went to Randolph County, Illinois, along with John and William McHenry. There is a Daniel that shows up nearby and I have also found others.

Joseph McHenry (my ggg grandfather), was married to Mary Adams, daughter of John Adams of Randolph Co., Illinois. Their daughter, Sarah Jane McHenry was my gg grandmother, who married Absolem Whitfield Johnston. They lived in both Randolph and Clinton Counties in Illinois, then about the turn of the 20th Century, they moved to South Bend, Indiana, where both Absolem and Sarah are buried about 30 minutes from my home. I descend through their son James Renwick Johnston, and his wife Georgia Coleman, and their son my grandfather George Whitfield Johnston. We still live in Northern Indiana.

I responded to your posting because of the proximity of Thomas Beatty, and Mary Jane McHenry, as it appears they too were born in South Carolina. I would like to know more about them and their extended family and perhaps friends who came with them to Texas.

Thus far, I have found two groups of McHenrys in South Carolina. One group is found in the Chester/Fairfield County area, on the other down around Charleston. I was not aware that there were McHenrys who went to Georgia, but have found some that moved into Tennessee. We do not know if our ancestor Joseph moved from South Carolina directly to Illinois, however, I have found evidence that there was a John McHenry, who was old enough to be the father of the Illinois McHenry, who was in Randolph County as early as 1810.

I would be extremely interested in learning about the lives and family from Thomas Beatty and Mary Jane McHenry.
