It's been a while since your posting but I thought I would respond with the following information. The whole issue is very confusing because there were so many Millsaps (as well as McHargues) with the same first name. I found information in the Iredell County(NC) Heritage book of 1980 in an article written by Millsaps descendents. The information was taken from a family bible.
1.Thomas Millsaps - a weaver from Ireland
2. sons Robert, Thomas, Joseph, William and daughters, Elizabeth Dillen, Jean McGee, Eliner and Mary
3.Joseph's children (died October 1821); Thomas,1-12-1767; William,6-11-1768; Joseph,1-22-1771; Ann,(Nancy) 2-18-1777; Mary 9-15-1782.
4.Joseph's son William married twice to Gwaltney sisters;
Children of first wife:
Nancy Privette 12-12-1790
Sarah 2-16-1782 m. William Davis
Joseph 6-14-1793 m. Rebecca Barker
Richard 10-3-1795 m. Catherine Looper
Lucy 2-24-1797 m. Looper
Mary 2-24-1798 m. Hatton
Jonathan 10-16-1799 m. Hutchinson
William 12-29-1800 m. Blankenship
Ronda (Rhoda) 10-26-1803 m. McHargue (Jonathan b. 1802)
Thomas 4-10-1805 m. 1.Patience Johnson 2. Nancy Wiles
Lizzie 7-27-1806 m. Mize
Children of second wife:
Litten 2-29-1811 m. 1 Margaret Queen 2.Carolina Gwaltney
William's third son by his first wife, Joseph m. Rebecca Barker. Only one child of William and Rebecca is known and that one is Joseph b. 2-23-1816. This Joseph married NANCY MARTIN on the 14th day of April, 1840.
All the above is from that family bible as stated in the Iredell County Heritage book from 1980.
I have a copy of the original will of Joseph Millsaps who died around October 1821. He names his children including Mary McHargue (who married John McHargue II) and JAMES MCHARGUE as a benefactor of his will. This would seem to show that James McHargue had married his daughter Ann (Nancy) who died before that time.
I have seen the tombstone of Nancy (Ann) McHargue on McHargue Mountain. It says she died on March 1, 1821 (six months before her father) Aged 44 years 10 days. That would place her birth on February 18, 1777.
I hope this information is helpful to anyone who needs it.
Glynis McHargue Patterson
