DNA Surname Project

Have any of you male McHargs thought of participating in a YDNA project? It would be great to organize a McHarg surname project which would have to be tested through the male McHarg line. This should also include McHargues as we surely originated from McHargs and this testing would show how. The tests can take you back to your nearest common ancestor. Only males can be tested as women only have mitochondrial DNA which goes back mother to mother to mother and wouldn't help for this purpose.

Having said that, my brother has agreed to be tested in the Graham/MAHARG surname project. At the very least he will get his YDNA results which could be used if there is a McHarg/McHargue surname project. And at best we could establish a connection with the Maharg/Graham group putting that controversy to rest (or not).

For information about DNA testing please go to www.familytreedna.com/surname or to the DNA Forum on this forum.

I have absolutely no desire to organize this because you have just read absolutely everything I know about the subject. But I thought there might be some bright McHarg out there who would be interested in organizing a McHarg/McHargue surname test.

Glynis McHargue Patterson
