John was my great grandfather. Born Wigtown,Scotland.Son of John McHarg and Rebecca Morrison (Sligo?). Emigrated to Canada and then US. Became citizen and enlisted in Army at Jefferson Barracks. Fought in most battles of Mex-AM War. Married Frances Ormsby Ringling (or Ringler). Had twelve children including my grandfather, Ormsby McHarg. Ormsby haad a long career in federal gov't and politics and was campaign mgr for Teddy Roosevelt.I don't know when or how John got to Canada or when he crossed over to US and became citizen. Any info on him or descendents appreciated.
