It's probably just circumstance that so many McHargs match the Maybole McHargs. There are numerous other McHargs in southwest Scotland with whom we have not matched because they haven't tested.Or......the question is, is this match a red herring because all McHargs would come up with the same markers, even if they are from other areas of southwest Scotland or even Northern Ireland, showing a common ancestor even more recently than we have previously thought. We do have Northern Irish matches. This is why we desperately need more McHargs and Mehargs to test.Even McHards could possibly match. We've had McCards to test and match the McHargues indicating a spelling change in the early 1800s in the US.The mutations on the markers, can often indicate which family line the DNA test participant is from. But we do know that MOST McHargs/Mehargs/McHargues in the project do come from a common ancestor who lived around 800 or 900 years ago. There is one divergent line of Mehargs so far and that is to be expected in nearly 900 years or so of descendants.
