There seems to be a great deal of confusion concerning the McHaney Family of Pittsylvania County, Va., and the relationship between the early generations.
The Inventory of the Estate of Dennis McHaney, dated 25 Feb 1779 is recorded there in Will Book 4, page 192. By instrument dated 1 January 1781, recorded there on 17 July 1781, in Deed Book 1, Page 6, Terry McHaney granted to Cornelius McHaney (I) "all
right and title to the legacy left me by the will of my father". There is no record of a will for any McHaney either in Halifax or Pittsylvania, other than for Cornelius I. This will, if located, might solve the problem of the relationship of these McHaneys. Does anyone have information on earlier McHaney wills?.
