Hi..I am Roy McHaney and have been working on the McHaney genealogy for some time now. I have also had a lot of contact with other McHaneys doing research. So far, I have not found any McHaneys dropping the Mc. A lot of the "Mac" were dropped in the early days to avoid the hate crimes against the Scottish and the Irish. I will let you know if I ever come across anything that may help you.
