My great-grandfather, George Andrew McGurk was born, say, 1863 in Ireland and came as a young man to America. This information is from oral history through my cousin in Canada. She told me that George Andrew came to America to live with a brother after his parents were killed in Ireland (?Cork). I have no knowledge of his brother's name. But when he was grown, my cousin told me that he moved to Canada and met and married Sarah Jane Hannah of Ontario.

They had the following children:
Garfield McGurk (called "Mac")
George Andrew (my mother told me he moved to Jacksonville, FL and was part of the Highland Regiment during WWI.)
Ella, who died of TB.
Marguarite, 1900 to 1993, married Ernie Kittlesen and adopted Dorothy.
My grandmother, Frances Irene McGurk, b. 1903, d. 1988. She married Clyde Ayers Stroud, and they had two children, Virginia Jane and Victor (who died young).
My mother told me that George was an "Orangeman." His profession was a harnessmaker in Filmore, Saskatchewan. George died in Filmore in 1933, and is buried there with his wife Sarah Jane and his grandson, Victor Stroud.

If any of this rings a bell with another McGurk researcher, please let me know.
Best regards, Maureen Mead Pond
