Elina Rosa Manghi, age 59, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Dec. 11, 1952, died peacefully on Jan. 15 in the presence of her family in Oak Park, IL. Elina is survived by husband, Dennis E. McGuire; son, Martin M. McGuire; mother, Elina Jacoby Beyer; twin sister, Ida (Juan Carlos) Alvarez; bothers, Mario Jorge Manghi and Carlos Adolofo (Silvia Ramirez) Manghi; and aunt, Coca Manghi. She is also survived by a large extended family in Argentina and United States. Elina was preceded in death by her father, Mario Jorge Manghi. Elina received a Licentiate in Psychology at Universidad Argentina John F. Kennedy, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1975 and a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology, Chicago, IL in 1988. Elina was licensed by the State of Illinois as a Clinical Psychologist beginning in 1989 and as a Marriage and Family Therapist beginning in 1994. Elina was a Professor of Psychology at the Adler School of Professional Psychologoy in Chicago from 2009. Beginning in 1992 Elina was at the University of Illinois at Chicago. During her tenure she was a Clinical Professor, Department of Disability and Human Development and Co-Director of TAP Autism; Director of Clinical Services, Director of Training, Coordinator of Psychologoical Services, Family Clinic and Coordinator of the Family Therapy Residency Training at ISPI. Prior to 1992 she held a variety of positions in health and human service agencies. Elina authored numerous publications based on her research and clinical work, particularly dealing with Autism. To the people who knew Elina, she was truly a remarkable woman, with great integrity and sinsitivity. She had a strong commitment to serve the underserved, particularly Latino families with children with autism. There will be a Mass of Celebration of Elina's life at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 21 at Ascension Church, 815 S. East Ave., Oak Park, 60304. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to Grupo Salto, Autism Resource Center, 1640 W.
