Wilma Williams

BELTON ? Services for Wilma Williams, 88, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Salado with the Rev. Brian Dunks officiating.

Burial will follow in the Salado Cemetery.

Miss Williams died Aug. 29, 2004, in a Belton care center.

She was born Sept. 30, 1915, to Simon Earnest and Beulah McGuire Williams.

She became a Christian when she was 9 years old under the direction and example of her parents. She was baptized into the fellowship of the Mount Zion Baptist Church between Rockdale and Minerva.

After graduating from Rockdale High School in 1931, Miss Williams moved with her family to Bell County. She attended a business college in Austin and secured a business position with an architectural firm. She made her home in Austin, and after many years of working on her job and in the First Baptist Church of Austin, she retired.

She immediately petitioned the Baptist Foreign Board for an assignment and was asked to serve in Rushlicon, Switzerland at the Baptist Theological Seminary, where she served for eight years. By her request, she lived in the dorm and made many worldwide friends among the students.

Miss Williams retired again and moved to Salado, built a house and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Salado. She served there as a teacher of the Bible, adviser, counselor, and assisted in the library preparing newsletters and bulletins. She was an elected member of many committees formed to select personnel and other Christian workers in the local church as well as other areas of the Baptist Association.

She was instrumental in helping family members in the start up of businesses and securing degrees in education, secular and other fields. Her estate will enable, financially, other Christian students to continue their studies.

Survivors include two brothers, Truett and the Rev. Guinn Williams; and three sisters, Billye Fuller, Sibyl Smith and Patsy Hinsley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Thelma Pedigo.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Dossman Funeral Home in Belton.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Salado building debt retirement fund.
