Greetings Marilyn,

I'll leave it to researcher Pat Meguire to provide a more thorough answer to this question, but suffice it to say this issue is a great example of an unfounded "fact" becoming memorialized in the record after years of repetition. Although a boon to genealogical research, the internet seems to have made this a recurring problem.

This James McGuire was KIA at the Battle of Blue Licks KY.
