I have recently started searching for my ancestors.I have a family tree that was put together for my mother in the 1980's back to my g-g-g- grandfather/ mother.
I was very interested to read your post as my grandfather John George Donaldson was married to Margaret R McGuinness in Portland, Vic Australia. on 15 March, 1843.
Her parents are listed as Robert McGuinness and Isabella Modberry and her birthplace/ date County Derry circa 1820 .The Modberry part I am sceptical of as there are so very very few mentions of this name, but it could have been bad handwriting and been McCombe.
Furthermore, in 1866 Margaret Donaldson (nee McGuinness) was living in a house owned by Robert McGuinness (could be her brother or father) and she named her daugther Jane Elizabeth (possibly after her sister????)
The name matches with Robert and Isabella McGuinness are very similar to the information that I have. Do you know if Any of the other siblings of Jane McGuinness emigrated to Australia and therefore could possibly be linked as above.
