Karen , I just came cross your posting on McGuinness in RI. My grandfather was from that area, including Smithfield. His father, Michael Reynolds married a Catherine McGinnis in Ireland in 1851 in the parish of Mohill, Co Leitrim, Ire. I feel the different spelling can be dismissed. They next show up in Smithfield, RI on the 1870 census with children. I havent found their children's birthplace yet.
On the 1870 census in Providence city their was a Peter and Ann Reynolds, living next door a James and Kate Reynolds, and living next door was a James and Bridget Maguinness and a Patrick Maguin.Again the spelling could be errors. There always seem to be Mcguinness family near Reynolds. Does your research show anything? Jack
