I think I have been able to zero-in on County Armagh as Mary McGuill's birthplace, thanks to some information in the U.S. Census of 1930.

The censuses in 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 only say Mary was born in Ireland, which is really no help in deciding if she was born in Co. Louth or Co. Armagh.

However the 1930 U.S. Census came after the 1922 Treaty between Ireland and England which created Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State. That census says Mary was born in "North Ireland", so now I am fairly certain she was born in Co. Armagh, not far from Dundalk.

I might also mention that the 1925 Iowa Census only said her place of birth was Ireland, so I am lucky that the Federal census was so particular about identification of places.
