I am descended from Jennet Guffin the sister of Thomas Andrew and George Guffin. I would like to thankyou for the info you all have passed on. it is much more than I have been able to gather. All the info I have on Jennet
was that she was born in Scotland on March 25,1764.which is strange seeing that the brothers were born in Newry Ireland She was only 9 years old when she made the trip with her brothers. But there is no mention of their parents. She and her brother Andrew made there way to Conn. where she met and married Joseph Boughton jr. After the revolutionary war Andrew Guffin followed Jennet and Joseph to New York and they founded the first Presbyterian church of Nassau and remained active in the church until they passed away.
Joseph and Jennet had eight children 4 boys and 4 girls that married into local families.
I went to nassau New York this past summer and found Andrew Guffin and his wifes grave.
But was unable to locate Joseph and Jennets grave site.
Does anyone know where in scotland the Guffin
brothers came from before they settled in Newry Ireland? I have heard it said that the Guff surnames were found predominantly in the Galloway region of scotland. There was supposed to have been a ancient Clan by the name of Mcguffog which changed to Mcguffock. Which was from the Galloway region dating from around the 12th century. Mcguffin is very similar to Mcguffog there could be a connection with this family.
If anyone knows anything more about Jennet and the Guffin family please drop me a line.
