Still trying to find more information on my "McGuffey" family line. Their are so many holes and sometimes not sure where to go next. If anyone has definite information on this line, I would appreciate a direction or information. Thanks.
Nelson Henry McGuffey, born abt 1818 in Campbell, kentucky
died 9 Oct 1888 in Selvin, Warrick Co., Indiana
He married Nancy Jane Black on 7 Dec 1837 in Perry Co., Indiana and they had 7 children. My line comes from their son, Nelson John. I think his father is Henry McGuffey and his mother's name is Nancy but do not have any proof of this. He may have siblings named Ellen, Katherine, Sarah and Henry Jr. but have no proof of this either.
I've found him in some of the following census records:
CENSUS: 1830 - HAVE NOT FOUND HIM (should I be looking in Indiana or Kentucky?)
CENSUS: 1840 Perry Co., Indiana, Roll 90, page 212
CENSUS: 1850 Perry Co., Indiana, Roll m432_165, Page 358, image 36
CENSUS: 1860 - HAVE NOT FOUND HIM
CENSUS: 1870 Warrick Co., Indiana, Pigeon Township
I do have this information on him:
SOLDIER: Veteran of the Civil War, Rank Private, Union, Company F 53rd Indiana Infantry, Selvin Co., Indiana
MILITARY PENSION CLAIM: JUN 30, 1880 APPLICATION #403527, CERTIFICATE #236991
WIDOWS CLAIM: DEC 8, 1888 APPLICATION #385226, CERTIFICATE #268095
