It appears that Jesse McGuffey may be the son of Edmund McGuffey (he appears on several Morgan County, TN documents with Edmund), who was married to Sarah Kuykendall. This is only conjecture at this point. The following tree, however, appears to be correct based on census records. I'm hoping to send off for Jesse's Civil War records soon, and then there may be more proof (I hope!).

1. JESSE6 MCGUFFEY (EDMUND5, JOHN4 MCGUFFEY [IV], JOHN3MAGUFFEE, JR., JOHN2MAGUFFEE, SR., JOHN1MAGUFFIE/MAGUFFEE, THE IMMIGRANT) was born August 10, 1816 in Buncombe Co., NC, and died March 07, 1885. He married (1) BARBARA CLIFT 1836. She was born March 19, 1817 in Roane Co., TN, and died Bef. 1867. He married (2) MARY JANE WEBB October 1867. She was born Abt. 1835 in Tennessee.

In 1900 Lydia, and Elizabeth's recently widowed daughter, Barbara, and her family lived with Elizabeth.
Elizabeth's grave has her birthdate as 1843, but it appears to have actually been 1841.

The McGuffeys are listed as one of the pioneer families of Pine Orchard. They appear to be from North Carolina.
