I too am looking for information on Tennessee McGuffeys. My ancestors came from Smith County TN..but I have a copy of a marriage bond of a marriage in Roane County, TN dated January 4, 1827 between James McGuffey and Othena Hurt. I am fairly certain that my great great grandmother was born to this union. Her name was Othena McGuffey..and she married Squire Wood (who was from Smith County) I know there were multiple James McGuffeys..James Edmund and Sarah had sons: James, Jessie, and Jacob..and each of them had a James...I am trying to determine which James would have married Othena Hurt in Roane County TN in 1827 and then had a daughter about 1835 and named her Othena. I know that Othena Hurt had a brother, Albert, who also named a daughter Othena. I have determined that the name Othena is as popular in the Hurt family as James is in the McGuffey family..I would LOVE some help with this..any help you or anyone who reads this can give. Who was this James McGuffey? Who was Othena Hurt? Who were the children born to James and Othena? Were they the parents of my great great grandmother. I am a brick wall..and all of this seems to be the great family mystery.
