I have information that states that Patrick McGriff married Mary Hall, but that their are other records that indicate her name was Mary (Molly) Coice.Their children were John b. 1775?, William b.1777?, Thomas b.1779?, James b.1781?, Elizabeth b. 1783?, Polly b.1785?, Jane b.1787?, Patrick b. 1789, and Richard b. 1791?
Also, in looking through my info, I see: Children of Colonel Patrick McGriff- John McGriff married to Nancy HALL (b. 1796) in 1805.After his death in 1830-1835, his widow Nancy HALL McGriff went to Gadsen County, Florida and lived with her son, William McGriff, where her son managed the plantation of his uncle, Patrick McGriff, who died in 1834 and his uncle, William McGriff, who died in 1839.When Patrick McGriff Jr., died in 1834 all his children were minors. When William McGriff died in 1839 six of his children were minors.None of the children of either of them were old enough to remember their grandmother, the wife of Colonel Patrick McGriff. While Nancy HALL McGriff was living in Gadsen County with her son, she was then 60-70 years old, she was serving as midwife to the slave women of the two plantations as shown by her reciepts in the probate files of the two estates. It is not surprising that these children of William McGriff and Patrick McGriff, Jr., should many years later remember her as their grandmother. It is from these people that the statement came that Colonel Patrick McGriff's wife was a Polly Hall. But Richard McGriff was near 30 years old when his father died, he was 40 years of more when his mother Nancy HALL McGriff died. When in 1873, he made, and repeated, the statement, "My mother was a HALL, my grandmother was Mary Choice," I am confident that he was right. All of his statements that can be compared to public records prove to be exact.
