McGregor Family Genealogy Forum
I am searching for information about a Donald (Daniel) McGregor who appears in the Old Parish Records in Argyll as marrying Violet Campbell (b. 1745 Dunoon and Kilmun), daughter of Alexander Campbell of Belochoile, on March 24, 1764 (recorded in Dunoon and Kilmun as both belonging to that parish). Donald and Violet lived at Lonyle (now submerged in Loch Tarsan) in GlenLean in Inverchaolain Parish. They had one son, Archibald (b.29 March 1765). Violet died 29 September 1770 and was buried in the Kilmun churchyard. Her tombstone reads “Violet Campbell wife of Daniel farmer Lonnile d 23.9.1770 for Pat, Dunc and And his bros” which indicates that Donald was known as Daniel and that he had brothers Patrick, Duncan and Andrew. I know that he married Janet (Agnes) McLeish, a widow at Dalinlongart Farm on February 22, 1772 (marriage recorded in both Dunoon and Kilmun parish and Inverchaolain Parish). They lived at Dalinlongart Farm and they had children (Anne b.1775, Andrew b.1778, Jennat b.1780, Donald b. 1783, Mary b. 1786) and what became of some of them. I also know that he had an illegitimate child, John (b. 1787) with Margaret Turner who was also at Dalinlongart Farm. My question is WHERE did Donald (Daniel) come from and who were his parents??? There should be at least 4 brothers in the family three of whom apparently died before 1770. Donald (Daniel) was probably born between 1735 and 1745. I’d also be interested in when he died (I know it was before 1816) if anyone has that information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
