My apologies for not responding sooner, the McFarland's of Wilson County Tennessee relate back to Duncan McFarland of EdinBurg Scotland. My connection to Duncan's MacGregor line happens anywhere from 1290 to 1530; 16 - 24 generations, 30 years/gen.

Duncan's son John Porter McFarland and Nancy Meness had Tennesse at Fort Nashville, their first son James McFarland being born there.

I re-read the hand written family history which is also on Ancestry.com, about Duncan and the connection to Rob Roy MacGregor's mother. I noted in my copy of the hand written history her name is noted as Margaret McFarland(e)Campbell. I am not sure how the McFarland gets in there.

BTW - I noted on Wikipedia that the descendants of Rob Roy located in MacGregor, Iowa and that in 1849 Alex MacGregor had his signet. Has anyone identified a family in this area tied to Alex and talked about DNA testing?

Regarding my McFarland (Hidden MacGregors) line, at this point it travels from me back to my GGGF Ira McFarland B:~1810 NC(per 1860 census). However, 1870 census he states Vir(confused). Ira [Andrew] McFarland(signed McFarlin/1832 marriage bond to Mahala Chandler) was not a direct decendant of Duncan or his children per their family tree. His father is a big question. He could be:
1. A nephew of Jacob McFarland married Jane Varner both of NC. Jacob a Rev solder died 1835 TN. This relation comes from a Robert S McFarland(Martha Brown) son of John McFarland/Elizabeth Johnson. John was son of Jacob McFarland/Jane Varner both NC per Jasper McFarland reference plus common TN graves).

2. Grandson of a William McFarland who came to TN, Wilson per Southeastern Pioneer Passport dated 24 Sept 1792. He came with four children. (S:Elizabeth?/1781?)

3. Son of a William McFarland, 1820 Census(3girls/1Boy - Ira's age. Wife: ?(Seybe Canady)

4. William's brothers could have been John and Benjamin, also 1820 census. John married Crissey Canady per his will. I am guessing William married a Sebye(Sally/Sallie). But Sebye could have been a sister.

Peter
