What I have is basically this-
Joe and America(Petty)McGowan, both born in AL, living in Scott County, Ms. They had at least two daughters Maggie and Laura(my great-grandmother)who married two Metcalf brothers. Maggie married Henry Metcalf and Laura married William E. Metcalf on Apr 5, 1875 in Scott County. Laura was born on May 7, 1860 in Scott County according to death certificate. She died in Aspermont, Stonewall County, TX. Their oldest child was born aft 1875? in Meriden, Bosque County, TX.
There is also a Ewell(I believe)McGowan buried in the Metcalf plot at Double Mountain Cemetery in Stonewall, TX. I have pictures of the tombstone but can't find it right now.I believe he may have been a brother/nephew to Maggie and Laura but not sure. Henry and W. E. (Bill) Metcalf's parents were Anthony Wayne Hanson Metcalf and Ann Liverman from AL. Their children seem to be born Scott County.
Anthony seems to have been at one time-county clerk-county judge as well as farmer. He died in Scott County in 1863? His father Anthony Hogan Metcalf died ther on Jan 21, 1854 in(Hillsboro?). He was married to Matilda Bragg Beasley.
Two of Anthony and Matilda's daughters married in Scott County-one, Christina, to a Rankin in 1843-and Matilda Shephard to a Garner in 1843. Ann Liverman and sons, with wives migrated to TX sometime between 1863 and 1875 to Bosque County.connected. I hope this helps-I have more on descendants of Laura and Maggie if you want. Just let me know.
I have nothing on Joe or America other than names and two daughters and would love to find more. This family is one of my brick walls--both McGowan and Petty! Please let me know if you find more and I will do the same.
